How to Get Advertisers for Your Blog

advertiseIf you’ve got a blog with enough traffic, you might want to monetize the space by drawing in advertisers. If your blog is new, it’s going to be a hard sell to get people to want to advertise on your blog but you can do it.

Whether your blog is new or established, you’ll want to draw up a pitch. This should include a page that shows where the ad would be and how big it is. Even if you’re brand new, if you pitch to an advertiser they’ll need this information. Don’t worry about setting a price. You have no idea how valuable the ad space is going to be them yet, most likely.

Go to other blogs that have similar content to yours and make a list of the people who are advertising there. These are the advertisers you want to contact and make pitches to. They obviously buy ad space in blogs like yours, so they’re an easier sell than someone who might offer products or services that your readers can use but who don’t advertise in blogs.

You can do one of two things at this point. You can offer them free space for a limited time, say a month or two, or you can offer them ad space at a very low introductory rate.

Free Blog Ad Space: If it sounds crazy to offer an advertiser free blog space, consider how much that space is worth to them. If you’re a blog with high traffic, then just show them your stats and offer them a price. But if you’re new or you have low traffic, offering them a free short-term spot can entice them to try it because they’ve got nothing to lose.

Use a plug-in to track how many hits the ad gets and to track page views and statistics if you’re not doing that already. Then before the free time runs out, if the numbers look good enough then present the advertiser with those numbers and offer them a price to continue the ad.

Low Cost Ad Space: If you’d rather try a very low introductory offer, the principle is the same. You offer low cost ad space, and when the traffic starts to improve and their ad is getting more hits, then you raise the ad space rate. If the traffic is worth it to them, they’ll continue the ad.

You can actually increase your chances of gaining advertisers by really focusing the content toward those advertisers, making good use of keywords. By doing this, you can try one more approach.

Send people to the potential advertiser’s website without approaching them first. Use good keywords and targeted traffic to attract people who would want to click on that link. Track your statistics, and after a month or whenever the numbers are looking good, present the potential advertiser with the business you’ve sent them to show that you know how to send traffic to advertisers (and inherently they know that you could send the blog traffic to their advertisers instead).

Talk with other Bloggers –

Talk with other bloggers and you will get an excellent idea of what is going on out there, and even more importantly, how you can generate more content for your blog. Open yourself up to conversations with other bloggers in your niche or industry and you are bound to come with all kinds of ideas for content.

Visit your past and read your blog history –

The best way to know what to write is to look back in time at what you have already talked about. You can also find entries which are in need of revisions or that you can update. If you have written about something in the past that could be touched on again, reference the old blog post with a link and update your readers with new relevant information.

Invite a Guest Blogger –

It can be a good this to invite a blogger who is an expert in the same or related field as your own. Inviting a guest blogger will allow you to add content to your blog without necessarily having to write it yourself. Expand your blog with content from other bloggers and attract more traffic to your site.

Don’t send all your traffic to your homepage or to a page which contains information about other offers too as these things can deviate the user mind and your conversion rate could be low.

Test, Modify and Test again: – Testing a landing page is very important to understand the behavior of your visitors and increase the conversion rate. It’s always good to create multiple landing pages for a same campaign and then see which page converts most. After that you can make more improvements to that landing page and test it again.

  • When you notice that there is a lot of traffic coming to specific posts in your website from Google, then it could be helpful for you to optimize those specific pages for the types of keywords that people seem to be searching for in order to increase your traffic even further. Look at your keyword density, link to that page from other pages on your blog using good anchor text, and try tweaking your titles as a way to get started.
  • When you are noticing that another blog is linking up to yours, then what you have is an opportunity to create and build up a relationship with that particular blog. You should strive to get to know the writer better, thanking them for their link, and you should submit other blog posts that they may find useful, and make an attempt to link up to them as well.
  • When you are noticing that a social media site is sending you traffic, then this is a signal that you need to get involved on that social media website. Do some analysis regarding the types of content that perform well on the site, and add a voting button on your site so that you can encourage your blog readers to go to the site and vote for your content so that you can perform even better than before.
  • When you are getting a lot of traffic in the search engines for specific keywords, then that can be a hint that you need to write more blog content on that specific topic. Identify the strengths and weaknesses of your blog

I have shown only two types of weaknesses and strengths that might be built upon in a blog, but there are plenty more of course. The principles that apply are the same – once you have identified something you are good at, something that people really respond to on the blog, keep at it. This does not mean you cannot look to other areas or improve weaknesses, it means you should spend as much time building on your successes as you do fixing those weaknesses. The Key to a Successful Blog

successIn the last post, regarding keys to a strong blog, we talked about some of the keys to successful blogging. This is part two in the series about finding your niche and repeating the formula to create successful blogging.

We last left you with a list of your best blog posts, the ones that out performed the others. Now let us figure out why. Here are some questions that you can ask yourself in order to analyze what allowed a specific blog post to out perform the others.

  • Could it have been the topic?
  • Could it have been the style of the post?
  • Could it have been the title?
  • Could it have been an image?
  • Could it have been the length of the post?
  • Could it have been the use of controversy, or humor?

There can really be a wide variety of different factors that are capable of contributing to the success of a post, but it is typically just one or two specific things that stand out above all of the rest. You should conduct this basic analysis on a bunch of your most successful posts, and what you may end up finding out is that some of the same things are coming into play with each of the posts. You are going to want to identify what these factors are, and then you will find yourself in an excellent position to continue developing more of this excellent content.

The next thing that you are going to want to do is to ask some questions about traffic. This is another type of analysis that you can do, trying to find out the source of your current traffic and visitors.

  • Where are the top sources bringing traffic to your blog?
  • What other websites or blogs are creating links to your content?
  • Which social media and social networking sites seem to be appreciating your blog content?
  • Which search engines are sending traffic to your blog?
  • Which keywords to people seem to be using in order to find your website as a result of using search engines?

When you look at all of the sources of traffic that are coming to your blog, this is going to be a truly powerful technique that will help you be able to extend your blog further because it will give you insight into what is and what is not working for you.

It has been found that when you are looking at a significant source for traffic to your blog, that there are always still going to be a number of ways to build upon that traffic even further. In the final part of this series we are going to look at how you can take a significant source of traffic and evolve it into something even greater.

You should not, by any means, ruin the readability of this website by messing things up with good keywords that are improperly spelled. You can, however, find other ways to optimize your website for these keywords. One example of a tactic that you can employ is to include these commonly misspelled good keywords in the META tags for your website. Planting misspellings intentionally is only going to help you when it comes to words that are actually misspelled commonly. Look at the keywords that you are featuring on your website, and brainstorm the ways that they could potentially be easily misspelled. Make sure that you are including these misspellings in the META tags for your website.

Think about the errors that you have personally made when it comes to content creation for your website or while you are searching for certain things on the internet. What do you have a habit of misspelling when you are conducting a search online? The chances are that other people will be having the same difficulties that you have when it comes to spelling certain words – So if you have experienced a misspelling, other people are probably experiencing the same misspelling for otherwise good keywords. Misspelled SEO Keywords (pt 2)

While it is true that some websites are going to correct you if they think you meant something else, but this is only if a word you entered is more commonly spelled in some other manner. If the word isn’t suspected to be spelled wrong, how will the searcher benefit?

Here is something else to consider: Even when the search engine knows that a word is being misspelled, it is still going to return results. So it may be saying “Did you mean misspelled?” when you type in “mispelled”, but it is still going to display results with the misspelled word in place. So who knows if there’s a company, a person or a place out there that is spelling their name differently from yours? Your valuable visitors and traffic may be going somewhere else because they were looking for you but they mistakenly found someone else instead. The search engines are going to return results whether they perceive the word to be misspelled or not. Would you rather appear in the search engine results page when the keyword terms are spelled correctly, or incorrectly as well?

While many people using search engines may simply click on the top link and then continue to search using the right spelling of the word, there are also users that are probably not going to do this. They will choose, instead, to forge ahead, and to select whatever site appears first on the list regardless of whether or not the words are being spelled correctly. When all of your words in your content are spelled correctly, and you are only optimizing your content for the words that are spelled properly, then those users are never going to find your content because they only see the results that are spelled improperly. Is this a big deal? Is this going to affect you in any way? The most important question to ask you is this: How many visitors are you losing?

Anyone is capable of making a mistake: This truth has never become more evident than it has online. Casual surfers online are creating misspelled words all the time, to the point where businesses are learning how to capitalize on the most commonly misspelled terms and words. These companies are focusing on common misspellings in order to sweep up all of the traffic that would be accidently diverted away from them. They are enjoying a great increase in traffic as a result of this. Think about how quickly people are surfing online, and you will more than likely realize that there are likely to be misspellings occurring with every passing moment.

People are misspelling product names, city names, celebrity names and even common words, and these misspellings are happening constantly and all over the world. How can you ensure that they help you gain traffic rather than hurting your ability to attract people to your website?
