Voice, Texting, Mobile Platform Ribbit

Disclosure: I was paid as a consultant to produce the websites being discussed. I was not paid to discuss them on this website.

Ribbit is releasing a RESTful API addition to their soft switch telecom platform. I was given an opportunity to get involved prior to the beta release as part technologist, part QA, part consumer, and part evangelist.

The first application, Send Texter, is a simple send text message or send sms application with a cute little twist. You can schedule transactions for future dates. It is written in php and uses the RESTful API. So go ahead, use it to send a scheduled text message.

The second application, The Call Wall, is a call wall application. You call a telephone number and leave a voice message. The voice message is immediately available via mp3. The message is human transcribed and is typically available in under 8 minutes. The idea is that it may be cool to embed these in other websites. For example. a sports fan site or Facebook or a politics site (SayHear.org did something similar with the Ribbit Flash/Flex API). The Call Wall is also written in php and uses the RESTful API, but in addition we are working on a Flash front end.

Please try out these applications and give feedback. In particular focus, I am interested in integrating voice or texting into the WordPress platform.

What else could I do with the Ribbit Platform?
