February 2nd, 2012 — Blog Tips, Blogging, Platform, RSS Feed, Social Networking/Bookmarking, Web Traffic
Many blog owners spend a good portion of their time trying to figure out how to generate traffic to their blog. This is especially true when it comes to a brand new blog that is not yet really rich in meaningful and effective content. Generating visitor traffic to your blog is an endeavor that is going to take some basic effort on your part. Thankfully due to modern technology, the task of attracting interested people to your blog is a lot easier now than in the past.
The most common online blogging platforms are WordPress and Blogger. Both have hosted blog solutions, but WordPress also has an open source solution for installing the WordPress platform onto your own domain name. If you put the following tips into practice, it is more than possible for you to begin attracting traffic to your blog as early as on the first day. Within 24 hours of creating a blog you can begin to generate traffic, and if the purpose of your blog is to sell a product, you could be making sales just as quickly.
1 – Every blog has an RSS feed.
By submitting your RSS feed to the most popular online feed services, you will be able to attract website traffic very quickly, especially if you are focusing your blog content on specific keywords that have lower competition in search engine ranks. All that you need to be able to do is to submit the URL for your feed to a wide range of different free services as soon as you actually have a live site to promote. Some of the most widely recognized feed sites are:
- Feedage.com
- Feedagg.com
- Feedraider.com
- Feedfury.com
- Feedsubmitter.com
- Feedest.com
- Search4rss.com
2 – Social bookmarking involves creating bookmarks for your blog.
Additionally social bookmarking is meant for displaying information about what your blog centers on and what it has to offer. It is important that you use social bookmarking responsibly rather than spamming these websites. Simply write a short post that explains in a little bit of detail why your site or product will interest the people that you want to visit it. There are a myriad of different social bookmarking websites out there, including but not limited to:
- Digg.com
- YahooBuzz
- Technorati.com
- Del.icio.us
- Propeller
- StumbleUpon
- Reddit
- Mixx
- Fark
- MyBlogLog
3 – Social networking, on the other hand, is a little different.
When you create an account on a social networking website, you put together a profile that allows you to connect with other people, creating powerful partnerships and even a fan following in the right circumstances. These networks and relationships will facilitate the capability for you to promote your sites and protects, although much more subtlety than through other sources. Here are a few of the most popular social networking websites:
- FaceBook
- MySpace
- Classmates Online
- MSN Groups
- Yahoo Groups
- Xanga

December 6th, 2011 — Blog Tips, Blogging, Guest Blogger
Blogging is all about building: building friendships, building links, building content, building readership. It’s not for the fainthearted and it should only be taken up by those who have a passion for the topic they wish to write about. Without drive there is no real purpose in getting started. Blogging is a massive undertaking. It’s important to start out on the right foot and to not expect things to come quickly. If you’re blogging for quick monetary gain, you might just want to go out and buy a lottery ticket instead. So how does one build a blog?
Building Friendships:
You should already know of a few bloggers in the field you’re looking to blog about. Their blogs might be part of your daily internet dosage. You might be subscribed to their blogs. Whatever is the case it is time to stop lurking and start commenting. Email the blog owner and tell them how much you liked/loathed a particular article. Offer to write a guest post for their blog. Make yourself available and useful and above all be polite and respectful in all your dealings. Don’t harass!
Friendships are not always about the other bloggers in your niche either. If you’re a sport blog endeavor to make friends with the people in your sport from referees to coaches to athletes, etc. It’s easier with book blogs as you can find ways to contact publishers and authors directly. Be a little creative and be honest. Don’t give up!
Building Links:
Start by asking those bloggers with whom you made friends for links. Give them something worthwhile to share with their readers. More permanently, would they be willing to give you a link on their site for one of yours? This is called link exchanging and your link is usually filed under blogroll or a similar heading. Additionally, search for more blogs discussing your field and offer the same deal. Link exchanges are a useful way to share readership and increasing your ranking in search engines. Big blogs need links just as much as new small blogs. It doesn’t hurt to ask – the worst they can say is no thank you.
Building Content:
There’s no point to build links and friendships if you don’t have good strong content. If you’re stuck for ideas consider writing an opposing view point, making a list, explaining terms, offering opinions on news related to your field, look for people to interview or profile, create a guide, share what you like/dislike, confirm/discredit rumors etc. Take a look around you – everything is copy – or available to you to write about. Be open to ideas and they will come.
Building Readership:
The holy grail in blogging is establishing a strong (and growing) readership. How does one do this? By writing engaging content, sure, but also by making yourself available that’s how. You’re not writing down to your readers – you’re opening dialogue with your readers. Make every reader feel special. Respond to comments and emails! Be accessible; start a Twitter account! Be friendly and be yourself. If you’re a snarky person or a shy person use your qualities to the best of your advantage. Don’t try to be funny if you’re not naturally. Don’t try to write thought provoking posts if you’re more inclined to be light and jovial. Readers respond to sincerity.
These tips are just some of the many things you can do to build a better blog. What would you add?
Today’s blog post was written by Keira. Her blog about romance novels, Love Romance Passion, is for readers by readers. Check it out whether or not you’re a fan of the genre!

November 27th, 2011 — Blog Tips, Blogging
There is an opposite to successful blogging, which is blogging that drives your readers in the wrong direction. Take a look at this list of things that you can do to drive readers away so that you will have a better understanding of what you need to do in order to achieve truly successful blogging in your blogging endeavor.
1 – Use navigation that is impossible on your website.
If your readers need to read a user manual to be able to maneuver through your website, then something is wrong. People don’t want to have to learn how to use your site- So make it user friendly and intuitive, or don’t bother.
2 – Use more advertising than actual content.
Advertising may serve a purpose, but if there isn’t as much content as advertising, then you’re doing something wrong. When your readers realize it, they’re not likely to stick around.
3 – Forget or refuse to maintain your website on a regular basis.
If your site features information that is outdated or erroneous, it is going to appear as a site that nobody gives a care about. Why should your readers care about something you don’t care about?
4 – Require too much information from your readers.
If you require personal information to give information to your readers, they may actually be convinced not to stick around to read what you have to say.
5 – Attempt to be too “cutting edge”.
While it is good to take advantage of new and innovative technologies, these are actually capable of causing problems with your readers. If your pages are crashing browsers or are too image or technology intensive, they may scare readers away rather than attracting them.
6 – Crash the browsers that your visitors are using.
This one is pretty straight forward. If your website is crashing people’s browsers, they’re NOT going to stick around.
7 – Use sound or automatically loading video on a professional blog site.
If you want people to take your site seriously, then you need to take it seriously too. Videos and sounds that play automatically are a huge no-no if you want people to think you are professional.
8 – Use too many images in your blog.
Images are going to slow down the loading of your page, so too many images is going to spell disaster no matter how you look at it. If you have to have a lot of images -Make them small!
9 – Do not pay attention to any of your readers.
You need to pay attention to what your readers want, and deliver, if you want them to take your blog seriously. If you don’t pay attention to what readers are saying, then why are you even blogging?
10 – Embed entirely too many tables into your blog, or embed frames into your blog.
These things are messy, they slow down browsers, and they’re completely unnecessary. Find a better way to set up your blog.

November 26th, 2011 — Blogging, Writing for Your Blog
One of the biggest keys when it comes to keeping a successful blog is to provide content that is perceived to be exceptional. The following five tips are designed to ensure that the blog posts that you write are getting read, and also that they are encouraging your readers to come back time and time again for more. These five tips are absolutely essential in helping you to write a successful blog.
Successful Blog Tip #1 – A successful blog is one that utilizes the right tone for the niche and audience.
Every blog is going to have a target audience that it is written to suit. Before you begin to write blog posts, you are going to want to figure out what your audiences are. Who is going to want to read your blog and why are they going to want to read your blog? Identify the goals you have for your blog, as well as the expectations that your audience is going to have for your blog, and choose a tone that is going to be appropriate for both of these ends.
Successful Blog Tip #2 – A successful blog is an honest blog.
Blogs should be written in a truly honest voice in order to show who you are as a writer. These blogs tend to be those that are the most popular. A critical component to the success of your blog is the community developing around it. If you represent yourself and the content of your blog in an honest manner, your loyal readership numbers will grow.
Successful Blog Tip #3 – A successful blog is more than simply lists worth of links.
Blogging is a time consuming endeavor, and so it might be a bit tempting for you to link to other people’s content and be done for the day – You need to avoid this trap. Readers do not want to follow a trail of breadcrumbs in order to find something that is interesting for them to read. Bring them the information that they want, don’t give them a scavenger hunt to find it.
Successful Blog Tip #4 – A successful blog is one that provides attribution when attribution is due.
Do not risk being accused of violating a copyright, stealing content or plagiarizing – if you find information elsewhere, make sure that you provide a link back to the source, referencing them for the information you received.
Successful Blog Tip #5 – A successful blog is one that utilizes short, concise paragraphs.
The content and the visual appeal of the blog are both just as important as one another. Write in short paragraphs for visual relief because nobody likes a text heavy website. Most readers skim anyway, so make it easier for them to find the information that they are looking for.

November 17th, 2011 — Blogging, Comments, Web Traffic
A really great endeavor worth pursuing when trying to learn how to increase blog traffic is to use blog comments in order to attract a steady stream of people to your blog. When you leave strong comments in other blogs, it can play a large role in how to increase blog traffic because it adds something of value to the community. People who find and read the comments that you leave elsewhere on the internet will find reasons to come over and view your blog because they will be interested in whatever else you have to say.
The other reason why this will help you in learning how to increase blog traffic is because you will be attracting not just any traffic, but traffic that is targeted to your specific niche or whatever subject your blog is based on. These people who are reading your comments and following them to your blogs are reading because they are specifically interested in the topics covered within the blog. What this means is that the readers of the blogs you are commenting in are logical choices for visitors to come to your blog. There are a number of different ways that you can increase the likelihood that these people will be interested in viewing your blog after reading your comments. Here are three steps that have been regarded as being successful in this line of thinking:
- * Respect the community that surrounds the blog. Every single blog on the internet has its own community. This community has its own unique rules as well as expectations of behavior within the blog. Most of these blogs do not have written rules, but that does not mean that they are without some kind of guidelines. It is important that you know what these rules are, and that you follow them.
- * Leave strong comments, but keep in mind that strong comments are really in the eye of the beholder. Expand on points that have already been brought up in the post, giving examples of how they are working. People tend to be incredibly fond of case studies, as they are capable of making points easier to understand. Try not to use one of your websites however, because you want to look like you are contributing rather than simply advertising.
- * Create a link back to your blog, to make sure that people are capable of following your comments back to your blog. Make sure that your link is in the website field of your comment so that your comment will be approved. As soon as your comment is approved as being strong and useful rather than spammy or advertising, your backlink will be live and your website will see an increase in traffic.
These three steps are vital in helping you learn how to increase blog traffic for your blog or website, so get started commenting today.

November 14th, 2011 — Blogging, Web Traffic
There are plenty of ways that you can attract free blog traffic if you know what to do. First and foremost, you should be hosting your own blog to earn free blog traffic, rather than having your blog hosted by WordPress, Blogger or another similar platform. There are stories floating around about bloggers that made money on hosted blogs, then had Google pull their blogs, preventing them from making money as they had been in the past. Can you imagine putting months of hard work into a blog and then having it taken away from you? Don’t do it!
When you host your own blog on your own website, you have control over absolutely every aspect of it, preventing this from happening to you. Now, here are some tips to increasing the amount of free blog traffic that you bring in to your website:
1 – First and foremost, if you enjoy blogging then spend a lot of time doing it. Spend several hours a day working on attracting free blog traffic by writing in your blog. The best way to get noticed is to prove that you are passionate about your blogging endeavor.
2 – Develop a detailed list of long tail keywords and keyword phrases for use on your website and then work on targeting those keywords in your blog titles as well as in the intro and the closing for each of your blog entries as well.
3 – Make sure that you are blogging every day, or at least consistently. Blog several times a day, so that the search engines will see that you are posting new, fresh and interesting content at regular intervals. The more you post, the more search engines will want to index your blog for an increase in free blog traffic.
4 – Bookmark all of your blog articles in the top social networking and social media directories. Some services out there are capable of bookmarking blog entries on multiple directories, such as OnlyWire.com for example.
5 – Take some of your content and post it elsewhere on the web, such as on Ezinearticles.com for example. This is the largest article submission directly on the internet, and it will help you develop more backlinks for an increase in free blog traffic.
If you do this every single day, then you will slowly begin to build free blog traffic as well as sales, newsletter subscriptions and other actions that you are looking to create from your blog. Keep in mind that free blog traffic is vital, but if your blog is trying to sell something, raise awareness of something or garner more newsletter subscriptions, then attracting free blog traffic is really just the beginning. The more free blog traffic you attract, the more sales and sign ups you will end up attracting over time in order to create a wildly successful blog online.

October 19th, 2011 — Advertising, Blog Design
When it comes to creating and writing in a blog, one of the most important questions that a lot of first time bloggers find themselves asking is whether or not they should do any advertising. The truth is, there is never really a situation where advertising is bad, as long as you are advertising in the right way. There are a multitude of different ways that you can advertise on your blog, including advertising to bring people to your blog, and advertising on your blog to generate revenue through your blogging endeavor. Both of these forms of advertising have benefits, but they also have a small selection of drawbacks as well.
Advertising to Gain Traffic –
Advertising for the purpose of gaining traffic may mean search engine optimization, posting content to article submission websites, putting your blog link in your e-mail signature and finding other ways to spread the word about your blog. One of the most advantageous ways to attract people to your blog is to socialize, commenting in other blogs and facilitating conversations in a way that will attract people back to yours.
The Advantage –
The advantage to advertising your blog is obviously, as it will attract an increase in traffic and readership to your content, attracting more people to see what you are writing. There are plenty of ways to advertise your blog, and many of them are inexpensive or completely free.
The Disadvantage -
The disadvantage to advertising your blog is the fact that it can take away from the time you need to keep your blog updated. Luckily, many forms of advertising your blog can be done simply by writing in it and socializing through it, so you should not feel like you are limited in how much advertising you can do.
Advertising to Monetize your Blog –
This is another excellent reason to advertise because it allows you to generate money from your blog through advertising. If you want to make a little money back from your blogging effort, find out more about affiliate marketing, AdSense and other forms of advertising for monetization.
The Advantage –
You can make back the costs for your blog website and can even generate some extra money on the side without doing much work. Simply writing relevant content will do much of the advertising for you.
The Disadvantage -
Some readers are put off by obvious advertisements. If your blog pages are overloaded with adverts, you may be overwhelming your readers, which can chase them away. Make sure that your ads are visible, but not overwhelmingly so.
Once you know the ins and outs of advertising through blogging, and the advantages and disadvantages associated with each, you can make smart decisions regarding whether or not your blogging endeavor needs a little bit of advertising.

October 8th, 2011 — Blog Tips, Blogging, Platform
Blogs are, hands down, one of the easiest possible ways for you to publish your thoughts or messages on the internet. Blogs are excellent for spiking search engine enthusiasm, meaning that by writing in a blog you can easily attract plenty of traffic. But are you aware of what you should and should not do when it comes to setting your blog up in order to attract the maximum amount of traffic for all of the effort that you are putting in your blogging effort? Here are some simple tips for how you can significantly increase traffic to your blog, creating a popular blog out of your modest writing effort.
Step 1 – First and foremost, you need to make sure that you are using the right blogging platform.
Do not fall into the trap of using a free blogging platform for your website. These may be an excellent solution for keeping your costs down, but you end up relying on someone else’s computer, and if their server goes down, you could potentially lose everything. So while it may seem wise to start off on LiveJournal or Blogger, just don’t do it! If you want to create a secure blog, you should spend some extra money to make sure that you are in control of your own blogging endeavor.
Step 2 – The second consideration is to absolutely never, ever duplicate your content.
If you are using the default settings on a blog platform like WordPress, then your blog posts are going to appear in a number of different locations on your website, including your main page, your post page, your category page and your archive page. Unfortunately, most search engines are going to view this as duplicate content, and you may end up being penalized if you do not clean it up. Make sure that your settings are not sabotaging your blogging effort.
Step 3 – Finally, and perhaps most importantly, post as often as you possibly can.
Search engines are intelligent enough that they can tell roughly how often you are posting in your blog. Search engines are always on the look out for content that is fresh and new. The more often you are capable of posting to your blog, the better off you will be. Daily is always best, but every other day or twice a week are also acceptable solutions. Make sure that you are posting useful and relevant content when you post, rather than simply posting for the sake of search engine spiders, because your readers and subscribers matter most of all.
These tips may seem simple, but they are extremely important when it comes to preparing your blog for good, long term traffic. The more popular your blog becomes, the more viral it will be in attracting new, unique visitors every day, week and month.
