How to Get Started With Niche Blogging

oldnicheAre you already participating in the creation of a blog? If you are not out there blogging already, then you are definitely missing out on a truly booming market, not to mention what is essentially one of the latest and greatest fads on the internet. Today it seems as if everyone is blogging these days. If your parents or grand parents have a computer, they may even be blogging! Blogging is not just about being fun anymore, but instead it has become a serious business that really seems to be taking off. There are people out there who are making a living blogging full time simply by writing in a blog every day. Can you imagine spending a little bit of time blogging online and making enough money to survive on?

There are basically two different types of blogging: Regular blogging and niche blogging. Niche blogging is where the real money is right now. If you can learn how niche blogging functions, then you can make money online just like everyone else. Here is how niche blogging works: First you do some research to find out what types of niches are becoming popular. Then you create a blog on one of these niche topics. Then you find affiliate products that relate to the blog that you are writing in. Now you write a blog entry every single day. Market your blog as much as you possibly can, and collect the money when it begins to roll in. That sounds fairly simple, does it not?

Once you get the hang of things, they definitely are simple – But starting out at the beginning takes a little bit more work, and it will take some thought and some serious research. First you need to research your niche and figure out what you should be blogging about. Your niche should be unique, but it should also meet a need or supply a solution to a problem that will have people looking for you. Your blog should be unique even if your niche is not completely unique – So find a unique solution, unique information or something else that makes you special, and begin blogging. It is also important to find keywords that people will be using to find your niche – The keyword research part of the process should take a while, and a lot of thought, but the more work you put into the process, the more that it will pay off in the end. If you want to compete with other bloggers operating within your niche, then you need to be using keywords effectively because it makes all the difference.

If you are having trouble coming up with a niche, try to find something that interests you and go from there. Think of a problem that you have, and find a solution. Now market that solution to the other people in the world who have the same problem and you have an instant niche. Blog about it every day, and your blog truly can become a source of income for you.

Top 10 Tips for Writing a Blog

writing15Most of the rules and tips that are associated with writing for eZines and newsletters also apply to writing blog entries, though there are some truly important differences as well. If you keep these top ten tips for writing a blog entry in mind, you will be creating excellent blog content in no time at all.

1 – Write with the reader in mind.

What is in it for your readers? “WIIFM” is jargon for “What’s in it for me?” in the marketing world, and this is what you need to be keeping in mind with every post that you write.

2 – Make your content worthwhile and valuable.

Do not waste people’s time by posting content that is not worthwhile or valuable. If you do not have anything to say, don’t bother blogging. Review books, share articles, conduct interviews. There is plenty to say, so say it.

3 – Proof read every entry and comment.

Look for typos and for grammatical errors. Don’t publish spelling mistakes. Polish your content to show that you respect your readers.

4 – Keep posts short and simple.

Keep things short and simple, because most people simply skim and scan over material. People do not have a lot of time, so do not burden them with too much information unless you have a really good reason to post lengthy entries in your blog.

5 – Keep your blog lively.

Your blog should be snappy and snazzy, interesting and lively. Write like you are having a conversation with a friend, and get to the point quickly. Make sure to touch on the who, what, where, when and why.

6 – Provide plenty of links.

Building links builds credibility, and it positions you as an expert in the industry or niche that you are posting about. People do not have time to know what everyone else is doing, so you should tell them by sharing links in your blog entries. Link other blogs and websites to build a network of associates online.

7 – Use keywords as often as possible.

Using keywords that are relevant to your niche will keep you on task, help search engines find you, and attract more traffic to your website. Your rankings will go up, and people will find you more easily than ever online.

8 – Write clearly.

Make sure to use short sentences, and touch on only a single concept per sentence. Do not use double speak, do not use jargon, and do not overwhelm your readers by cramming more than a single idea into each sentence. Spoon feed your content to your readers and they will return to your blog for more.

9 – Write in the same way that you talk.

It is okay to use common expressions and to write conversationally. Let your blog be fluid, conversational and friendly, and your readers will keep coming back for more.

10 – Use a headline that is clear, concise and descriptive.

SEO Principles for WordPress Blogs

coffeeWordPress is a relatively SEO friendly blogging tool to begin with. It offers a linking structure that makes it relatively easy for spiders to crawl your pages, and the code contains very little validation errors if any at all. However, there are a few additional steps that you can follow in order to make your WordPress blog even more SEO friendly, and most are so simple to implement that there is absolutely no reason not to.

1 – You need to make sure that the URLs on your pages contain your blog’s post name, rather than simply a post number.

This can be easily accomplished by using the permalinks page in your WordPress settings, typing “/index.php/%postname%” when asked about custom structure. Alternatively, you can write a rewrite rule directly into your .htaccess file in order to have an increase in control over the syntax of your URLs.

2 – Change your page title order so that your blog post name appears before the name of your blog or the date of your blog.

The first words in your title are always given more weight than anything else, and they will also catch the attention of your readers more effectively. This can be done by editing the header.php file, swapping the order of the PHP tags so that wp_title appears before bloginfo.

3 – Make excellent use of your heading tags.

You may find that your blog entry title is insert automatically into a tag, or that your blog name is in a tag. You can edit these tags in single.php as well as header.php in most WordPress templates. You can choose a format that suits you, but the best solution is typically to put your blog entry title in, swapping your blog name for an image instead. Also make sure that you make good use of other heading tags, using a good heading structure any time that it is suitable.

4 – Avoid duplicate content issues by using “index, nofollow” tags on your tag pages, archive pages and category pages, allowing search engine spiders to follow the links on these pages but not to list them in the index.

There are a number of plugins that can make this a really simple process, and one of the best is called robotsmeta.

5 – Pay attention to the linking structure in your blog, making sure that all of your blog entries can be properly accessed with as few clicks as is possible.

Remove unnecessary links from your blog pages and remove unnecessary pages from your blog as well. You are going to want to consider using a pagination plugin to help you remove unnecessary clutter from your blog for ease of use and increased access.

There are a number of other techniques that you can use to maximize your SEO for WordPress, but this is certainly a good place to begin.
