January 26th, 2012 — Blog Design, Blogging, Domain/Host, Readership, Web Traffic
If you want to create an edge over many of the other bloggers on the web, then one of the best things that you can do is host your own blog. There are a number of benefits of hosting your own blog over having some other service host your blog. Here are ten of the most prevalent benefits.
1 – Professional Appearance –
Hosting your own blog gives your blog a professional appearance, because you can use your own domain name or website name and can host your blog on your own website. If you do not host your own blog, you will have a lengthy blog URL which will make it appear less professional and will make it more difficult for readers to recall the name and website for your blog.
2 – Design –
Another benefit of hosting your own blog is the fact that you have a lot more freedom regarding the design. When you host your own blog, you do not have to follow a pre set design but can design your own blog layout instead.
3 – Recall Ability –
By hosting your own blog, you can make your blog easier to recall among readers. What address do you think is easier to recall, http://www.blogsite.com or http://blogsite.blogger.com/~blogname? The easier your domain name is, the easier it will be for readers to recall it, and this is one of the greatest benefits for hosting your own blog.
4 – Content Control –
While there are not normally really strict guidelines regarding content, when you have your blog hosted by a blogging network, your choices in content can be restricted. By hosting your own blog, you can have much larger control over your content.
5 – Security –
By hosting your own blog on your own website, you can have more control over your security, and will be better able to protect your own blog rather relying on someone else to do it.
6 – Brand Promotion –
By hosting your own blog, it will be easier to develop and promote your own brand. Even if you are not selling something, hosting your own blog will provide greater individuality than what shared hosting can offer.
7 – Revenue Generation –
When you host your blog with someone else, you have less control over generating revenue. When you host your own blog, however, you have much greater control over how you generate revenue online.
8 – Growth –
While starting on a blogging network makes sense, if you want to grow your blog, you need to go independent. By hosting your own blog, you can create a much larger level of growth over time.
9 – Site Integration –
By hosting your own blog, you can integrate your blog with your website, rather than having to create a completely separate website from your blog.
10 – More Traffic –
Hosting your own blog will also allow you to generate more traffic, because your posts will be easier to find in search engines.

Continued from part one.
While it is true that some websites are going to correct you if they think you meant something else, but this is only if a word you entered is more commonly spelled in some other manner. If the word isn’t suspected to be spelled wrong, how will the searcher benefit?
Here is something else to consider: Even when the search engine knows that a word is being misspelled, it is still going to return results. So it may be saying “Did you mean misspelled?” when you type in “mispelled”, but it is still going to display results with the misspelled word in place. So who knows if there’s a company, a person or a place out there that is spelling their name differently from yours? Your valuable visitors and traffic may be going somewhere else because they were looking for you but they mistakenly found someone else instead. The search engines are going to return results whether they perceive the word to be misspelled or not. Would you rather appear in the search engine results page when the keyword terms are spelled correctly, or incorrectly as well?
While many people using search engines may simply click on the top link and then continue to search using the right spelling of the word, there are also users that are probably not going to do this. They will choose, instead, to forge ahead, and to select whatever site appears first on the list regardless of whether or not the words are being spelled correctly. When all of your words in your content are spelled correctly, and you are only optimizing your content for the words that are spelled properly, then those users are never going to find your content because they only see the results that are spelled improperly. Is this a big deal? Is this going to affect you in any way? The most important question to ask you is this: How many visitors are you losing?
Anyone is capable of making a mistake: This truth has never become more evident than it has online. Casual surfers online are creating misspelled words all the time, to the point where businesses are learning how to capitalize on the most commonly misspelled terms and words. These companies are focusing on common misspellings in order to sweep up all of the traffic that would be accidently diverted away from them. They are enjoying a great increase in traffic as a result of this. Think about how quickly people are surfing online, and you will more than likely realize that there are likely to be misspellings occurring with every passing moment.
People are misspelling product names, city names, celebrity names and even common words, and these misspellings are happening constantly and all over the world. How can you ensure that they help you gain traffic rather than hurting your ability to attract people to your website?

October 12th, 2011 — Blogging, Content Ideas, Writing for Your Blog
If you want to keep readers coming back to your website, you should produce fresh blog posts to keep their interest. Look to the biggest sites, what they all have in common is that they constantly produce content that is new and fresh. This is also what the webmasters of the blog will say is the most difficult thing. Producing content that is fresh and frequent is a challenge that, once overcome, will take your blog to a new level.
There are a number of things that can help you in producing content that is fresh. The first is to make sure that your posts are kept brief. Trying to consistently put out 500 word posts will quickly burn you out, with the time that is taken. Many good blogs have many posts that are short. The average attention span of the internet reader is about a minute and a half. Short blog posts will be refreshing for the readers who may not have the time to read very long blog posts.
Another thing that is good for keeping content fresh is to prepare a backup stash of articles, or a working queue. This sort of action is especially good for those who may find themselves suffering from writers block. The premise is to write articles before you need them. You may have a stash of articles for when you are blocked, or you may have a stack of articles that you add to, and pull content from, following a schedule planned in advance.
Some blogs will invite their readers to be guest bloggers. This will not only introduce ideas from your readers, which can act as a muse for your posts, but it will also encourage participation from your blog readers. Interaction is a surefire way to create a sense of community with your readers. Reader interaction is also good because some great blog posts stem from conversations in the comments section. Let us not forget the biggest benefit to guest bloggers, one less blog post for you to write.
Guest bloggers do not have to readers. Rather, you can find a blogger who is within the same genre or niche. Inviting these bloggers to contribute can enable you to form professional relationships with other bloggers. These relationships can encourage the growth of ideas through conversations. Many times, guest bloggers from other blogs will also allow you to write for their blog. This gives you and them access to each others readers, bolstering the traffic to both blogs.
Sometimes the best way to ensure fresh content is to blog in teams. A team of bloggers may run a single blog or many. The idea is that the bloggers will share in blogging duties, so that if one can not contribute for a period of time, the others can take up the slack and ensure that fresh content is produced. Such an agreement between bloggers will require less work for the bloggers, and give a number of different views within the content.
Producing content that is fresh is how you will ensure that your blog flourishes.
