Everytime I have a new post my husband helps me promote it by doing some of the things on the list you mentioned, the yahoo update, pinging the blog, etc. I also do a lot of the blog commenting. However, I have to say that too many people abuse the blog commenting. I have seen way too many comments that are totally irrelevant to the article or blog post, or are one liner spammy lines... :( These are great recommendations for helping increase traffic to a blog.
