When you first create a blog, getting people to visit it is definitely going to be one of the most important considerations that you make. Simply attracting these blog readers is not enough if you are not guaranteeing in some way that they will stick around, or visit more often. As a blogger, it is as vital that you know how to retain blog readers as to originally attract them. Rather than worry yourself with attracting enough traffic, you need to concern yourself with keeping the blog readers that you do attract. The thing that is going to bring life to your blog is the blog readers that are dedicated to returning time and time again. Forget about the fly by night traffic and worry about retaining the right visitors to your website. Here are some tips for helping you retain the most important blog readers:
- * First and foremost, you should respond to the comments that you receive. If someone makes a good point about something that you say, or they ask a question about one of your posts, take the time to respond to them. If you respond well to your readers, you will be letting them know that you are trying to bring value to them, and that you appreciate the value they are bringing to you.
- * Next, you should make a point to visit the blogs of the people that are commenting on your posts. When most people comment, they leave a link training back to their website. If someone is writing valuably in your blog, then you should do the same in turn. Visit their blogs and leave a comment or two to let them know you were there. If you are commenting in their blog, it will be very hard for them to forget about visiting your blog again.
- * Make sure that your readers have an option to subscribe to your blog. Do not hide an offer for subscription someplace on your blog where it cannot easily be found. You should make sure that this subscription button is at the top or near to the top so that it can be easily found. Another great place for you to consider placing the subscription button is right inside each of the blog posts that you make so that it cannot be missed.
- * Finally, one of the best ways to keep your visitors coming back for more is simply to be yourself. If you are a personality that makes people want to read, then simply being yourself will keep people coming back for more. Once these blog readers have a general idea of who you are and what you are all about, they will continue to come around as long as you remain true to yourself.
These four tips can go a long way in helping you to retain blog readers who will continue to return to your website time and time again to read what you have to say.

A really great endeavor worth pursuing when trying to learn how to increase blog traffic is to use blog comments in order to attract a steady stream of people to your blog. When you leave strong comments in other blogs, it can play a large role in how to increase blog traffic because it adds something of value to the community. People who find and read the comments that you leave elsewhere on the internet will find reasons to come over and view your blog because they will be interested in whatever else you have to say.
The other reason why this will help you in learning how to increase blog traffic is because you will be attracting not just any traffic, but traffic that is targeted to your specific niche or whatever subject your blog is based on. These people who are reading your comments and following them to your blogs are reading because they are specifically interested in the topics covered within the blog. What this means is that the readers of the blogs you are commenting in are logical choices for visitors to come to your blog. There are a number of different ways that you can increase the likelihood that these people will be interested in viewing your blog after reading your comments. Here are three steps that have been regarded as being successful in this line of thinking:
- * Respect the community that surrounds the blog. Every single blog on the internet has its own community. This community has its own unique rules as well as expectations of behavior within the blog. Most of these blogs do not have written rules, but that does not mean that they are without some kind of guidelines. It is important that you know what these rules are, and that you follow them.
- * Leave strong comments, but keep in mind that strong comments are really in the eye of the beholder. Expand on points that have already been brought up in the post, giving examples of how they are working. People tend to be incredibly fond of case studies, as they are capable of making points easier to understand. Try not to use one of your websites however, because you want to look like you are contributing rather than simply advertising.
- * Create a link back to your blog, to make sure that people are capable of following your comments back to your blog. Make sure that your link is in the website field of your comment so that your comment will be approved. As soon as your comment is approved as being strong and useful rather than spammy or advertising, your backlink will be live and your website will see an increase in traffic.
These three steps are vital in helping you learn how to increase blog traffic for your blog or website, so get started commenting today.

June 29th, 2010 — Blog Tips, Blogging, Comments, Plugins
You can improve your blog functionality in order to improve your traffic, readership and the number of people that comment on your blog posts. When you improve your blog functionality, it can have a profound impact on the capabilities of your blog. Here are some tips to improve your blog functionality by making small tweaks and improvements to how your blog works.
Improve Your Blog Tip #1 – Install a plugin to track top commenters.
One way that you can reward the readers that are participating in your blog as well as to encourage other people to get involved is to install a plugin for top commenters, which works for WordPress blogs. This is going to put a little box on your sidebar with the names and the links to the commentors that have had the most participation in your blogs to give them a little big of recognition.
Improve Your Blog Tip #2 – Customize the sidebar on your blog pages.
When did you last make any modifications to your sidebar? The chances are, the people who regularly read your blog will have grown accustomed to what is already there, and they probably completely tune your sidebar content out as a result. From time to time, it may benefit you significantly to change things up just a bit, adding new features or new content to your sidebar.
Improve Your Blog Tip #3 – Separate your trackbacks from your comments.
Most blogs are displaying their pingbacks and their trackbacks along with comments from the blog’s readers. They may be helpful in showing your readers that other people find your content to be valuable but they can also actually get in the way, interfering with conversations that are going on throughout your comments section. There is a simple way to separate these things in WordPress, so if you use WordPress, make sure to separate your trackbacks and your pingbacks from your regular blog comments.
Improve Your Blog Tip #4 – Adjust and improve the about page of your blog.
Some of the people that read your blog are going to want to visit your About page so that they can find out more information about you. When was the last time that you took the time and made the effort to update this page? Make sure that you are taking a look at how effective it really is when it comes to communicating with your readers.
Improve Your Blog Tip #5 – Add a sitemap to your blog website.
Users can really benefit when you have a sitemap available to them. WordPress users can make use of a sitemap generator plugin that allows a sitemap page to be designed that lists out all blog posts and pages for easy access.

May 21st, 2010 — Blog Tips, Comments, Link Building, Readership, Web Traffic
This is part two in a three part series on the steps for building blog traffic. If you are looking for quick and simple ways for building blog traffic, or more involved ways with bigger returns, keep reading for some great information.
1 – Participate in related blogs and forum websites.
Whatever niche or industry you are in, if you are interested in building blog traffic then you need to participate in blogs and forums other than your own. There are going to be online communities full of people just like you including bloggers and forum posters that are already active. Depending on how specific your focus is, you may need to broaden your horizons a bit when reaching out to other communities in order to find a large community that you can fit in with. A great way for you to find out where these people are is to use a website known as Technorati, which will help you conduct searches. Then you can sort by authority and start participating elsewhere on the net to build some authority for your name, blog and website as well.
2 – Tag all of your content.
Technorati is the first place that you should be using to tag posts. It is recommended that you have the tags directly on your page, pointing to the technorati searches that you are specifically trying to target. There are a number of other good places that you can ping as well including Flickr and del.icio.us as well. Tagging your content is going to be really valuable in giving your website bumps from big name sites such as StumbleUpon, Digg and Reddit. You do not want to submit all of your posts to these websites, but you do not want to offer about one out of every twenty in order to get your name out there in a big way.
3 – Launch without any comments, and then add them in later.
There is something a little sad about a blog that does not have any comments, because it feels really dead and unpopular, but if you launch your blog without allowing comments, then nobody is going to know that you’re not getting any visitors, because your lack of comments is only because you do not want any. When you start to get more subscribers and readers, THEN and only then should you open up the ability to comment, so that you can begin to see some decent commenting. Comments are a way that many readers judge the popularity of a site, after all. If they view your blog and see that you are accepting comments but not getting any, they may take this as a sign that it is not worthwhile for them to stick around, and this won’t be good for you.
